New England...

And most of the folks aren't quite as friendly as we are here in the South. :)

Dad is in Great Barrington for his blood check and sent us some pics--

New England

Hey folks--- sorry for the delay, I have been out of town and Dad has been walking, walking, walking!

He left Pennsylvania and headed toward New Jersey, New York, Mass.,  and Connecticut.  He is currently in Cornwall, Connecticut. He travels through a small bit of each state and is moving toward Vermont.

* Two white blazes indicate a turn ahead.....

* Monastery photos below, hikers stayed in this area....

As he says, "he is a hiker, not a climber" and these areas are some of the roughest rock climbs he has had.  They also have had a lack of fresh water which can lead to dehydration.  Luckily, he has remained unscathed and is moving north!

Climbing path....crazy huh?

Delaware Water Gap and New Jersey

Dad was able to visit with some friends in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania.  Chloe and Foster have a beautiful farm in the Poconos and Dad thoroughly enjoyed his time with them and their hospitality.   I am sure it was nice to have a good meal and he said she is a great cook :)

While he was there, the thermometer hit 100 degrees and he is hiking New Jersey in the same heat.  Let's hope it cools down just a bit.

*Note- in the AT map photo below, he is at the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border.

Here a couple photos from the past few days!

Trek on!

Harpers Ferry, Route 66, snakes and LOTS of photos!

Dad and his two hiking buddies are headed toward Harpers Ferry (see photos of the town below).  They have to be back in Boston this weekend and have offered to take Dad to Delaware Water Gap.  From there, he will visit a friend of ours parents who live in the area and will resupply on food, etc.  From there, he plans to continue to head north for a while.  He doesn't think time wise he can get to Maine, but he is moving north and sure is enjoying this journey :) (not sure when he will see DC.... )

Tidbits...

* Another rattlesnake... he about stepped on it trying to take a picture... (but yet... a few days later... see what you spy in the photo below on trail...)

* He was very impressed with a couple of the hostels in the past two weeks...

* First bear sighting was in this area but it was running and he couldn't catch a photo

* An area called the "roller-coaster" was a challenge this week... it is continual ascends and descends..

Be sure to browse through all the photos and captions :)
